ADVANCED AIR PURIFICATION TECHNOLOGY
The advanced air purification technology utilized in CAP whole-house air purifiers.
WHOLE-HOUSE AIR PURIFIERS FEATURE STATE-OF-THE-ART INDOOR AIR QUALITY (IAQ) TECHNOLOGIES TO TARGET AIRBORNE ALLERGENS AND POLLUTANTS
Allergists and other medical professionals widely endorse a technique known as allergen avoidance to improve the health of sensitive patients suffering from respiratory diseases. The premise is simple: reduce exposure to pollutants that trigger allergic reactions and asthma. Central Air Purification (CAP®) units from Abatement Technologies incorporate one or more effective and targeted air purification technologies for this purpose:
Mechanical particle filtration for removal of airborne particulates
Activated carbon filter absorption to capture airborne odors and gas phase contaminants
Photolysis oxidation to neutralize organic odors
HEPA filtration to capture micro-organisms and other microscopic particles
MECHANICAL PARTICLE FILTRATION
Pre-filters capture larger particles to extend
the life of subsequent filters.
The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 52.2 was developed as a standard method to test mechanical filters and measure their ability to trap airborne particles of various sizes. Filters are assigned a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating between 1 and 16. The higher the rating, the better the filter is at removing smaller particles from the air. A standard low-efficiency throwaway furnace filter rated at MERV 1 or MERV 2 is effective only for the largest size particles; a MERV 13 filter is far more effective for capturing much finer particles.
All CAP100 Series Inline Air Purification Systems and CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series HEPA Air Purification Systems are equipped with MERV 4 first-stage pre-filters designed primarily to capture large, visible dirt and dust particles (50-100 microns or larger) and by doing so, extend the life of subsequent filters. These particles are too large and heavy to be respirable (breathed into the lungs), but can become a housekeeping problem when they drop out of the air and accumulate on surfaces.
Second-stage pleated particle filters in CAP100 Series, CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series models primarily capture smaller, visible particles that can pass easily through most throwaway furnace filters. The high capacity, five-inch deep CAP100 Series second-stage filter (MERV 13) is especially effective against five to 50 micron particles, and can capture particles as small as one micron in size.
ACTIVATED CARBON FILTERS FOR GAS AND ODOR DSORPTION
The VAPOR-LOCK® activated carbon filters utilized in CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series models capture airborne gasses, volatile organic compounds (VOC) off-gassed from carpets, composite wood furniture and other materials in the home, and odors caused by pets, cooking or smoking. VAPOR-LOCK filters utilize a process known as adsorption, in which the gas-phase molecules of the contaminants are attracted to and chemically bond to the surface of the carbon.
CAP600 Series models are equipped with a standard-duty VAPOR-LOCK filter media that is typically sufficient for the light or moderate odor levels found in most homes. The larger CAP1200 Series models are equipped with a heavier-duty VAPOR-LOCK filter. A second VAPOR-LOCK filter can also be purchased and installed in place of the pleated particulate filter if a home experiences particularly persistent odor problems from cooking, pets, smokers, microbial VOC or other sources.
Learn how activated carbon filters can improve indoor air quality.
HEPA FILTRATION
HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters provide, by far, the highest level of capture efficiency available for microscopic particles and microbes, with the ability to capture even tiny, invisible particles that can pass right through a MERV 16 filter.
A true HEPA filter must provide minimum filtration efficiency of 99.97% against particles 0.3-microns (0.00014 inches) in size, in accordance with stringent standards developed by the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST).
Some other filtration devices such as electronic air cleaners can provide high initial efficiency when the collection plates are clean, but efficiency can plummet as they get dirty. The beauty of a HEPA filter is that its efficiency starts at 99.97% and actually improves as the filter loads. Because of the exceptional small-particle capture performance of CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series models, these units are the most widely recommended for homes with family members who are asthmatic or have the highest sensitivity to respiratory allergens.

IAQ AND YOUR HOME
HOW CAP SYSTEMS CAN HELP REDUCE EXPOSURE TO AIR POLLUTANTS AND IMPROVE IAQ
REDUCE EXPOSURE TO INDOOR HOME AIR POLLUTANTS
Air pollutants in the home can lead to health problems such as allergies, asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Indoor air pollutants can affect us all, especially those homebound with serious illnesses, very young children, the elderly and the 60 to 70 million people in North America who suffer from allergies, asthma and other respiratory ailments.
Airborne pollutants found in homes can trigger a wide range of respiratory diseases including:
- Allergies and sinus reactions
- Painful headaches
- Persistent coughing, sneezing and wheezing
- Recurring cold and flu-type symptoms
- Chronic asthma
- Chronic fatigue
- Rashes
Sure, allergy medications can treat the symptoms, but physicians and respiratory specialists also recommend "allergen avoidance" – taking measures to reduce or eliminate exposure to the source of the problem. For example, if a person is allergic to shellfish, but eats them anyway, medical treatment may alleviate the reaction. However, it makes a lot more sense to avoid eating them in the first place. In the same light, avoidance of airborne allergens can reduce the threat to our health and well-being.
ADVANCED CENTRAL AIR PURIFICATION TECHNOLOGIES
Installed in the HVAC return, Central Air Purifiers (CAP®) from Abatement Technologies® are designed to remove airborne pollutants before the air is conditioned and supplied to the living space. The high-performance CAP units incorporate the latest innovations in air filtration technology.
CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series models combine up to five different air purification technologies for maximum effectiveness against a broad spectrum of airborne contaminants. Few if any other products can make that claim. All CAP models are certified by Environmental Testing Laboratories to meet applicable UL electrical safety standards.

COMPARISON OF ABATEMENT TECHNOLOGIES® CAP600 SERIES AND CAP1200 SERIES WHOLE-HOUSE HEPA AIR PURIFIERS VS. PORTABLE ROOM HEPA DEVICES
The advantages of Abatement HEPA-filtered central air purification systems vs. single room HEPA devices
DON’T JUST TREAT ONE ROOM. IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE AIR IN YOUR ENTIRE HOME!
Many allergists and other healthcare professionals recommend HEPA air filtration devices for the homes of those who suffer from respiratory allergies or asthma and to help reduce exposure to airborne pollutants that can trigger allergic reactions. There are a number of reasons why central whole-house air purifiers can offer some important homeowner and family benefits.
Abatement Technologies CAP® Whole-House Air Cleaners purify the air in a home every time it passes through the HVAC system. In most installations, one CAP600 Series or CAP1200 Series Central HEPA system has the filtration capacity to treat the entire volume of air within the home between 50 and more than 100 times every 24 hours.
Most portable room air purifiers are primarily effective only in the immediate vicinity of the unit, usually 300 to 500 square feet or less. For effective whole-house air cleaning, you would need to purchase a number of portable HEPA units and place them throughout the living space of your home.
Other advantages of Abatement Technologies CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series HEPA-filtered Central Air Purification systems for improving the quality of the air throughout your home include:
TRUE HOSPITAL GRADE HEPA FILTRATION EFFICIENCY
CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series Whole-House HEPA Air Purifiers are equipped with a true HEPA filter that has been independently tested and certified to ensure that it provides the efficiency of 99.97% or greater against 0.3-micron particles.
Most portable units use less than HEPA efficiency filter media or HEPA media filters that have not been tested for actual overall efficiency.
LOWER OPERATING AND LIFE CYCLE COSTS
With CAP600 Series and CAP1200 Series devices, homeowner costs are limited to the original installed purchase cost, electricity consumption and annual filter or filter and lamp pack replacement for only one unit per HVAC system.
Purchasing a number of portable units typically costs more both initially and in the long run because of how many units are needed, how much electricity they all consume, and how many ongoing replacement filters or filters and lamps are needed.
MORE CONVENIENT, LESS DISRUPTIVE AND BETTER AESTHETICS
Central HEPA air purifiers install conveniently out-of-the-way in the HVAC air handler system, typically in a basement, crawl space or attic. They take up no room and create little or no noise within the living space.
Having portable HEPA devices in several rooms throughout the house inconveniences family members, creates a lot of noise and detracts from the appearance of the home.
HOMEOWNER TESTIMONIALS
READ WHAT HOMEOWNERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEIR ABATEMENT TECHNOLOGIES® CAP® SERIES WHOLE-HOUSE AIR CLEANERS
“Between cigarette smoke, a wood stove and a Great Dane, our family has surrounded itself with a variety of smells and odors which can sometimes seem unbearable. The CAP air purifier from Abatement Technologies has stopped these odors cold, and has improved our indoor air quality ten-fold.”
– J.D., Ontario, Canada
“I have really bad allergies and this product has really made a difference. I love my HEPA filter (CAP600).”
– M.C., Virginia Beach, VA
“I am very happy with the CAP600-UV air purifier that I have had in my home for the past 5 years. It was installed and has been maintained by Clean Air Technologies of Charlotte and does a good job of eliminating the particles that I might breathe.
I had previously lived in the low country of South Carolina and had physical issues caused by the mold and high humidity in the area. I became chemically sensitive to building materials, plus mold, formaldehyde, gases and odors, so I have to reduce chemicals from my living environment as much as possible. I moved to a drier area, in North Carolina, but I still need to avoid gases and odors. Even though I live near a busy street, I have had success with dehumidifiers and the HEPA air purifier in my home.
I especially get good results from the VL602 carbon filters in the unit. I change them out often, usually earlier than suggested. I can actually tell if those filters need to be changed by how I feel. They make a big difference!”
– C.L., Charlotte, NC
“…The reason I had this system (CAP600-UVP) installed is because my son has asthma that is worsened by seasonal & environmental triggers. This spring we have had to give him Albuterol nebulizer treatments anywhere from a minimum of twice daily on up to every 3 to 4 hours. Since having this system install on Saturday (today being Tuesday), he has NOT had even one nebulizer treatment!! What a wonderful thing to say for a very active 4 year old! My son has been having the horrible coughing and wheezing episodes especially at night as well. The night after the system was put in was the first night in a long time that everyone in our home has gotten a peaceful, cough free sleep! What a relief! As you can see, I am very excited about this! I would love to recommend that all families, especially those with asthma cases, get one of these systems installed!”
– A.R., Lawrenceville, GA
“Thanks Diane, you were a big help. Please pass this email on to the owner/boss because you get KUDOS for your outstanding customer service provided me today. I told my daughter recently that attitude was everything, so pick a good one. YOU DID!”
– J.M., Milton, FL
“I want to thank you for recommending Quality Aire Technologies to install the CAP600-UVP Air Purifier in my home. I could not have been more pleased with the CAP600-UVP and the professional service that Mr. Ken lrick and his staff performed for me.
The entire job required a lot more than just installing the CAP600-UVP. First, Quality Aire Technologies cleaned all the heating/air conditioning ducts using your modern equipment. My ducts had not been cleaned for about 10 years and were quite dirty. It was amazing to see just how much debris they were able to remove from these ducts.
Next, Quality Aire Technologies refitted some of the heating/air conditioning ducts in my house in order to make the entire system air tight. This was no easy task since some of the air returns were open to spaces behind drywalls thus requiring considerable work to seal the system. It also should be pointed out that when I first talked with Mr. lrick over the phone, he was able to get a clear and accurate picture of exactly what new ducting had to be prefabricated prior to his arrival on the job site. I was really impressed that every prefabricated piece fitted exactly as needed.
Finally, in installing the CAP600-UVP, Mr. lrick performed wonders. The space he had to work in was very cramped and required a lot of refitting of the old ducts just to get the new unit in. The CAP600-UVP air purifier fits so well that this new unit looks like it is part of the original equipment.
The CAP600-UVP is up and operating and my wife and I are very pleased we had it installed. We are also very pleased to have done business with Quality Aire Technologies and Abatement Technologies. The price was right and the service was outstanding. Thank you again.”
– J.T., Broad Run, VA
“By far, the CAP System provides the best air quality anyone could have! Our house smells cleaner and (the unit) has virtually eliminated all cooking related odors. An economical product I would whole heartedly recommend to anyone wishing to improve their indoor air quality.”
– C.M., Ontario, Canada
“I have asthma and rhinitis that has driven me nuts for about 10 years. I had a CAP-600 with a UV light installed. Immediately, I began breathing pure, fresh air in the dead of winter in a tight house. I heartily recommend this system to anyone who has a breathing problem–or who simply wants to breathe pure air in their own home.”
– J.C., Blandon, PA
"When I reached the point where my antihistamine and nose spray couldn't counteract my allergies, my allergist suggested various measures I could try, including air filtration through HEPA filters. After researching my options, I decided on a central air system for my whole house. Abatement Technologies CAP600-UV unit quietly, efficiently removes dust mites, dander, mold, pollen, bacteria and even many viruses from the air in every room in my home. I no longer battle fatigue, itchy eyes and other allergy symptoms, even on the "high alert" pollen days, and I am healthier overall.”
– N.T., Duluth, GA
“My wife and I are both sensitive to dust and dust mites, so this is also a health problem for us. Since we had the Abatement CAP100-UVP installed, the dust is gone and we are coughing and sneezing less. Thanks for a great product.”
– D.S., Clarkesville, GA
“…The CAP1200-UVP along with the CAP300-UVP’s you sold us have improved the air quality so much in the bar area we are going to install the same combination in the upstairs Bingo Hall. We have tried many other products for several years and have had none to compare with those of Abatement Technologies. It has been a pleasure doing business with you and look forward to starting our next project.”
– American Legion, Buford, GA
“…I would like to thank whoever designed your CAP100-UVP and CAP300 air filtration and treatment products. Since we have installed these, our smoke and bar odors have been diminished immensely. All our members have had questions about how we got the problem under control. We have no need to even run the 3 Smokeaters we installed several years ago.
Also, the 2 portable air scrubbers in the Bingo Hall have had a big effect on increased attendance, which has almost doubled our Bingo revenues. Abatement Technologies products are truly the best investment the Post has made in several years.”
– American Legion, Duluth, GA
