Portable Anteroom Modules
An anteroom is a transitional space between a common area, such as the hallway, and the flat space that has been converted into an airborne infection isolation ward. An anteroom provides a buffer zone and functions as an “air-lock” to transition people between a potentially contaminated area and adjacent “clean” spaces. The anteroom can be negatively or positively pressurized as needed to control the direction of airflow to protect hospital personnel and other patients.

The Department of Health and Human Services' AHRQ Web site, www.ahrq.gov, has information on both on-site and off-site* conversion to increase the number of beds available. An Alternative Care Site Selection Matrix Tool is available at http://www.ahrq.gov/qual/hosptools.htm to help rank alternative care sites based on necessary features such as conditioned air supply, showers and toilets and space to prepare food. The matrix includes schools, hotels, convention centers, sports arenas, churches and fairgrounds.
